The Water Atomizer | Makers at the Lab

AMES National Laboratory

Did you know that Ames Lab makes its magnets out of metal powders? But how do you get metals to become powders in the first place? Well, we use high-pressure gases on molten-hot metal. To test the potential results of these very expensive (and potentially dangerous) experiments, however, we first test our devices using water and compressed air. Listen to postdoc researcher Jordan Tiarks explain how the water atomizer works, and how it can help us build a more sustainable future.
